We did all the metal roofing and cladding on the Southern Ocean Lodge rebuild on Kangaroo Island. Our tourism projects also include the Coopers Brewery Visitor Centre and the Monarto Safari Park Visitor Centre.

What a tourism job asks of the envelope trade

Southern Ocean Lodge burned in the January 2020 bushfires and was rebuilt on almost its original footprint by its original architect, Max Pritchard. It sits on the cliffs of Hanson Bay, at the remote south-west end of Kangaroo Island. We did all the metal roofing and cladding, which meant long loads to the island, mobile milling on site, and complex shapes and interface details built to strict bushfire requirements. The lodge reopened in December 2023.

The Monarto Safari Park Visitor Centre, built by Mossop and opened in March 2022, won the 2023 AIA SA Keith Neighbour Award for Commercial Architecture. The Coopers Brewery Visitor Centre at Regency Park, built by Built and opened in August 2024, is a two-storey circular building drawn from the brewery's vessels and its roundel.

Can you deliver to Kangaroo Island and other remote sites?

Yes. Southern Ocean Lodge needed long loads to the island and roof sheets milled on site. On Whyalla Secondary College we also milled the long roof sheets on site.

What does a bushfire-prone site need from the roof and walls?

In bushfire-prone areas the NCC calls up AS 3959, which sets construction requirements for roofs, walls and openings by Bushfire Attack Level (BAL). Southern Ocean Lodge's roofing and cladding were built to strict bushfire requirements.
