What a public building asks of the envelope trade

The Master Builders SA judges described the Adelaide Aquatic Centre's aluminium facade package as needing "precise fabrication, custom templates", including the two-way curved cladding to the Manta Ray entrance.

The Aquatic Centre package was delivered with extensive night works. On Roma Mitchell House, a government office building on North Terrace, we removed the old cladding and installed prefinished solid aluminium without disrupting the building or the morning and afternoon foot traffic that passes through it to the railway station.

At St Clair Recreation Centre we did all the roofing, including the curved roof of the retained heritage building. Henley Beach Library sits beside the 1922 Henley Town Hall, and we did all its metal roofing and cladding as well as the feature GRC.

Questions

Questions from civic builders

Can you build curved and non-standard facades?

Yes. The Adelaide Aquatic Centre entrance is two-way curved aluminium cladding, which the Master Builders SA judges said needed precise fabrication and custom templates.

Can you work on a building that stays open?

Yes. Roma Mitchell House stayed in use, and its walkway to the railway station stayed open, while we replaced the cladding. The Aquatic Centre package included extensive night works.

Do you work outside South Australia?

Yes. For Landsdale Library in Perth we designed and supplied the GRC feature band and installed it in one mobilisation.

Who do you work for on civic projects?

Councils and the state government, through head contractors including Sarah Constructions, Mossop, Badge, Hindmarsh, Hansen Yuncken, Kennett Builders and Partek.
