Capabilities · Facade design
SA Construct is an Adelaide cladding, roofing and facade contractor, founded in 2011 and based in Beverley, and a Master Builders SA award winner since 2014.
Facade design and engineering turns an architect's facade into a system that can be built and certified: system selection, 3D drafting, shop drawings, fixing design and the engineer's sign-off. We do the drafting in-house, fabricate in our own shop at Beverley and install with our own crews, so one contractor carries the facade from early design to handover.
Delivered on: the two-way curved Manta Ray entrance at the Adelaide Aquatic Centre, the adjustable soffit frame at the Adelaide Health and Medical Sciences Building, and the GRC entry band at Landsdale Library.
We work with head contractors and consultants from early design through to installation. Early on, the facade is tested against buildability, fire and weather evidence, Section J, cost and programme, and the result is a system choice the documentation team can draw.
On Central Adelaide Apartments, an 18-storey tower by Brown Falconer, that choice was a sealed fibre cement system. Jarrad Morgan, our Managing Director, explained why in a James Hardie case study. "Being an 18-storey building waterproofing was a concern but with ExoTec being a sealed system it was always going to be the best choice of cladding." He added that it "had the quickest install time which ultimately led to cost savings."
A facade shop drawing set holds the setting-out, panel schedules, bracket and sub-frame details, fixings with the engineer's certification, flashings, and the interfaces with windows, roof, slab edges and service penetrations. It also references the fire and weather evidence. A chartered structural or facade engineer certifies the system and its fixings, and the building certifier accepts the package under the Planning, Development and Infrastructure Act 2016.
Our drafting team produces the shop drawings for our cladding, GRC, louvre and metalwork packages. For GRC installation, the drawings coordinate panel, bracket and slab-edge geometry before the first lift.
In 2022, ANZ reported that the company had grown from a spare bedroom in 2011 to an 8,000 m2 facility and 170 employees. On Central Adelaide Apartments, most ExoTec sheets were cut in our workshop on wall saws, which shortened the install on site.
Where the facade is built as units off site, see modular facades. Barriers on balconies, stairs and grandstands are on commercial balustrades, and decks for rooftop plant on plant platforms and screens.

Questions
The facade contractor joins at schematic or design development to test the architect's facade against buildability, fire and weather evidence, Section J, cost and programme. The output is a system selection and a detail set the documentation team can draw. It heads off the redesign that follows when a facade that cannot be certified or priced reaches tender.
Setting-out, panel schedules, bracket and sub-frame details, fixings with the engineer's certification, flashings, and the interfaces with windows, roof, slab edges and service penetrations. It also references the fire and weather evidence. The certifier and the head contractor review it before fabrication starts.
A chartered structural or facade engineer certifies the structural design of the system and its fixings. The manufacturers' test reports cover fire (AS 1530.1, AS 5113) and weather (AS/NZS 4284). The building certifier accepts the package under the Planning, Development and Infrastructure Act 2016.
Aluminium (CNC machining, welding, extrusion and sheet rolling), steel (plasma cutting, welding and stainless steel) and sheet metal (flashings, cladding profiles, accessories and rainwater goods). We also own our access machinery and lifting equipment.
