Capabilities · Commercial roof safety systems
SA Construct is a cladding, roofing and facade contractor based in Beverley, Adelaide, founded in 2011 and a Master Builders SA award winner since 2014.
A roof safety system is everything that lets people work on a roof without falling: safety mesh under the sheets while the roof is built, then permanent walkways, ladders, guardrails, hatches and anchor points for the maintenance crews who follow. We design, supply, install and certify roof safety as part of our roofing package for head contractors, so the roof and the way onto it come from one contractor, one programme and one set of shop drawings.
Send the roof plans or call +61 8 7123 0833.
Every guardrail post, anchor and hatch is a fixing through the roof. Installed later by another trade, each one is a new penetration to flash, seal and argue over under the roof warranty. When the access route is on our roof shop drawings, anchors land on purlins, walkways step over box gutters instead of through them, and the plant platforms carry their own guardrail. The same crews lay the mesh, the sheet and the access in order.

Questions
Two things. During construction, safety mesh to AS/NZS 4389 under the sheet. For the life of the building, a permanent way to reach and work on the roof: fixed ladders, walkways, platforms and guardrails to AS 1657, or anchors and static lines where guardrail cannot go. Safe Work Australia ranks the controls in order: remove the work at height first, then mesh and guardrails, and only then harness-based fall arrest.
From 1 July 2026 the high-risk construction work threshold for falls in South Australia dropped from three metres to two metres, in line with the model WHS regulations. Work above that height needs a site-specific safe work method statement prepared with the workers, and SafeWork SA says the duty to manage falls applies at any height. A permanent walkway or guardrail means maintenance crews spend less time working in harnesses.
The anchor itself is made and tested to AS 5532, which replaced AS/NZS 5532:2013. How the system is selected, used and maintained, including inspection, is covered by AS/NZS 1891.4. A height-safety engineer designs and certifies the layout for the roof structure it fixes to.
Walkways, stairs, platforms and guardrails are designed to AS 1657 and certified by the structural engineer for the structure they bear on. We hand the layout drawing and the certificates to the head contractor for the owner's maintenance file.
Send the roof plans, the plant layout and the maintenance access brief. If we are pricing the roof as well, say so and we will price both together.
